We have just had a visit from the Hematologist with some results from the MRI scan. The doctor was Dr. Lane and he looked just like one of the
Goodies crossed with Chris Martin from Coldplay. He showed us the scans (which were quite amazing cross sections of Mum's spine) and pointed out the vertebrae which looked like it had collapsed (due to it being weakened by the cancer). This was the reason she was in so much pain. The bone was interfering with the surrounding muscle but not the spinal cord (which was good news). The treatment for this is pain medication, anti-inflammatory medication and physiotherapy (to strengthen the muscle).
There is still a need to perform a bone biopsy to confirm the type of cancer but all relevant opinions are that it is going to find Myeloma. Treatment options will be discussed when the results of this biopsy are known (which will be about 2 days after it is performed and we are still hoping the test will be performed today) and also the results of some other minor tests (blood tests etc).
It has been good to get some more concrete news.
